Devils River - Best Texas Swimming Holes Dallas Wanderer
Devil's River, in West Texas. One of the Lone Star State hidden gems awaiting to be discovered by you!

Maybe you are new to the Dallas area. Or to Texas. Or even to the US.  Just like I was one day.

Or maybe you are just like this sweet lady that I meet in Austin and was a native Texan that had never visited (or barely heard of) Hamilton Pool, one of the most beautiful swimming holes in the U.S., only a few miles from there.

An outsider look

Let’s face it, sometimes you need an outsider look to get to know the best of your own hometown.

Something that I can totally relate to as my favorite spots in my own hometown in Sao Paulo, Brazil, were presented to me by my now husband, an outsider from Spain, in my late twenties. Yes. I had spent over twenty years of my life there without knowing the places and things that are fondest to me and that I miss the most right now!

Been there, done that: yes, life in Dallas can be exciting!

When I first moved to Dallas, three years ago, I was completely lost.  And I met a lot of people – from expatriates from other countries to out-of-state Americans – that had been here for much longer than me but seemed as lost as I was and, worst, were convinced that Dallas just didn’t have much to offer and that living in Texas was plain tedious.  Was I fated to die of boredom?

Not at all.  As I started exploring around, experimenting on trip destinations and visiting different spots in Dallas, this whole “there is nothing to do in Texas” conversation started to get old and proved to be untrue.

To date I still get astonished when I show amazing pictures from destinations as close as 2 hours from DFW and friends that have been living here for over 15 years react in shock, because they had no idea that the place existed!

Simplifying Texas

Texas is not boring. It is just complex. And hard to figure out. What misleads many people into believing it has nothing to offer just because they cannot find the information that they are looking for in a straightforward way.

And that’s why the Dallas Wanderer was born. To fill this gap. Simplify Texas so people can get the most out of it, enjoying from its many nature beauties to the American southern culture on its most authentic way

Amazing stuff around

How can a state that has Route 66, the second largest Canyon in the US, one of the most beautiful swimming holes in the United States, real dinosaur footprints fossils and the NASA – just to name a few among Texas main attractions – ever be considered boring?

Here at the Dallas Wanderer you will find ideas on trips from Dallas – but that can also be done leaving from any other Texas city, such as Austin or Houston – and the main places to visit in Dallas. A bucket list of the best of Texas, surrounding states and Dallas to be slowly experimented, a bit at a time.

Go wander!

Remember: everyone’s experience is different and if yours living in Dallas will be positive or not it depends a lot on your attitude.

So, go, own it. Experiment the travel destinations in Texas and surrounding states and explore Dallas!
